LJ Peretti's Tashkent Blend
Author Last Post
Lou, I'll have to try that!! I just bought a pound of Blatter's "Reserve," a tangy English blend with plenty of latakia, perique, oriental leaves and virginia. Leaves a slight sour taste on the pallette - good sour, not harsh or unpleasant. I like to breathe it out through my nostrils, so that a few minutes later, when I inhale, the aroma is pulled back in. (Oh, sorry, maybe "t.m.i" - too much information - about the nose.) This blend is definitely a fine accompaniment to a bottle of Victory's "Storm King" stout, after a day of struggling with the tax code. Excuse me while I return to my little piece of heaven....
Thanks to Friend, Andy Camire, who was smoking this blend at the 2007Kaywoodie Event this past Dec., I have fallen in love with this blend. At the Kaywoodie Event, I remember smelling a wonderful aroma of Oriental tobacco. I let my nose do the investigative work and it led me to Andy's pipe! I asked what blend and he replied Tashkent, blended by LJ Peretti. I wasted no time in ordering a tin. What a wonderful blend. Accordining to LJ Peretti's website, their description states:

TASHKENT: Named for "The most beautiful city in Central Asia", this spicy, full flavored blend is made from Izmir Turkish and Latakia.

This "varietal" really come through in this blend. It definitely stands out amongst Oriental blends. On a recent visit to the store, I was told that they had come into possession of a quantity of Izmir and instead of just incorporating it into their already popular Oriental #40 blend, they made a separate and distinct new blend - am I glad! This blend was a huge hit at a recent club meeting - you know who you are!!!

I highly recommend trying this blend. If you come to a meeting, be sure to email me reminding me to bring my tin for you to try.

Stay Well and Happy Smoking,

Lou
